It’s the most wonderful time of the year, which means your home will soon have a revolving door of family and friends. If you have guests coming to stay with you during the holidays, get your house ready for them now by following these easy tips:

Start cleaning now! Don’t wait until the day before your guests arrive to clean and straighten up the whole house. Start on less-frequently used rooms, wash your guest room linens and make beds in advance of your guests’ arrivals, and save the last-minute rooms like the bathroom for the day before.

Also, check out this great Easy 7-Day Plan from Better Homes and Gardens that will tell you exactly when and how you should start cleaning.

Make sure your guests have everything they need. Store and label travel-size toiletries in Fabric Drawers and Bins, and then place them on their own shelf in the bathroom closet. These items can be small and inexpensive, and you can expect at least one guest to need a toothbrush.

Include items such as soap, medicine, toothpaste, lotion and disposable razors so your guests will feel like they never left home!

Give them space. Prepare for your guests to bring more than one suitcase. Plan for excess clothing clutter by making room in a guest room closet or create additional space with an easy-to-install DIY closet organizer kit like one from SuiteSymphony, SpaceCreations or Modular Closet.

Leave them a master list. Create an information sheet with all your home’s emergency numbers, WiFi passwords, neighbors’ phone numbers, grocery store locations and more. This way, if you aren’t home or available to answer their questions, they will know exactly what, or whom, to turn to.

Don’t skip the tiny details. Make your house feel welcoming with small personal touches, such as lighting a scented candle, taking out the trash, plumping pillows, etc. This will create a lovely atmosphere for their visit, and ensure everyone has a wonderful time this holiday season!

By getting organized now, you can be ready for anything this holiday season!
